"Volunteers bring something unique"
Joining Beyond dementia in May this year, Donna brings valuable experience in volunteer management and a passion for supporting local communities.
Based at the Warminster office, she will be working closely with volunteers, staff and community groups across Wiltshire to support and develop the organisation's growing volunteering programme.
Before joining the team, Donna coordinated around 200 volunteers at Dorothy House, supporting a wide range of roles including community support volunteers, volunteer drivers, walking group leaders and gardening volunteers.
Speaking about her journey into volunteer coordination, she said:
"I am always a little surprised that I have found my way into this role, but I am very glad that I have.
"I really enjoy the variety and versatility of skills that volunteers bring to their roles, and the commitment they give."
Donna’s journey with Beyond Dementia began through volunteering at Warminster Memory Group, a role she continues to support today.
She said: “The group, which has recently celebrated its first year of being open, has given me a real sense of what makes Beyond Dementia so special.
“The team and other volunteers are incredibly welcoming, so when the Volunteer Coordinator position came up, I jumped at the chance to apply."
One of Donna's key priorities is getting to know all volunteers across the organisation. She shares: “I’ve already had the privilege of meeting so many welcoming people, which has been wonderful, and I’m really excited about seeking out new volunteer roles and opportunities.
"Volunteers often think that their part to play is tiny in the grand scheme, but each person plays an intrinsic role.
"Their time and commitment are incredibly important to our clubs, groups and fundraising events, and without them, they simply wouldn't be able to thrive."
As Donna settles into her new role, she is looking forward to driving more people to discover the rewarding experience of volunteering with Beyond Dementia.
