Home Support

Our national award winning Home Support is based on companionship, respect and having a good time together. It can make all the difference for the whole family.

How it works

Memory loss does not have to result in social isolation. Our trained support workers help people to enjoy social contact and to continue to pursue their interests. They also provide a break to family carers by taking over caring responsibilities for a few hours each week.

Home Support is run by a team of regional home support managers who each organise the service in a different part of the county. They stay in close contact with families and offer advice and support throughout the dementia journey.

Specialist teams

Each manager has a team of specialist staff who support people with dementia in their homes. The support worker is trained to understand how memory problems can affect life and relationships and is carefully matched to the client. Subject to availability, they can arrange to come at any time of the day or evening, and on any day of the week.

As a charity we charge a subsidised rate of £27 an hour for this service. This can be paid for by a Direct Payment and you may be entitled to financial assistance. Your home support manager can help with this.

What we do

Everyone’s needs and interests are different, but our support workers can provide:

  • Companionship and conversation at home
  • Support to continue a favourite hobby
  • Social trips out to a garden centre, library or for coffee in town
  • Countryside walks - or cycles or swims if that is your thing
  • Practical help such with shopping trips or hairdressing appointments
  • Help to collect pensions or pay bills
  • An opportunity to talk, revive past skills or just have fun together.

An award-winning team

Our Home Support was named the Best Team at national Dementia Care Awards in 2017. Judges praised the caring ethos of support workers who always went the extra mile to find meaningful activities, build trusting relationships and help people stay independent for as long as possible.

The service was a finalist in the national Third Sector Care Awards 2022.
