Ten years of A Walk to Remember

A crowd of walkers starting out together through a wide gate. It's a blue-sky day and most are wearing shorts and charity branded white T-shirts

Beyond Dementia’s tenth annual memory walk attracted more than 140 walkers and is on track to raise record funds for the charity.

The walk, on Sunday 22nd June, started and finished at the Bowood Estate, at the invitation of the charity’s patron Lady Lansdowne.

This year’s event marked a decade of community support and fundraising for people living with dementia in Wiltshire.

Community Fundraising Manager Rachel Fear said: “We would like to thank all our amazing walkers and everyone who supported them.

"We had wind, we had rain, we had sunshine, we had it all - but everyone was in the most wonderful spirits.

“We also couldn’t do this without so many of our staff volunteering their time to help out, thank you for pulling together to make this such a fantastic event. Fundraising is still coming in and we are on track to raise £10,000 to support people with dementia here in Wiltshire."

Rachel added: "We started A Walk to Remember back in 2015 with a walk along the Kennet and Avon Canal and it is amazing to see how the event has grown since then. We have had various routes over the years and around a thousand people have walked for us.

More praise for walk

Tim Keegan, who took part in the walk with his wife Michelle, said: "It was a lovely day, we really enjoyed doing this walk for a great charity."

Jane Gaffney of Wiltshire Walkers, who helped plan the route and led walkers on the day, said: "Thank you to all the volunteers for your enthusiasm, support and hard work for making this another fabulous event."

Alzheimer’s Support is hosting its second Walk to Remember of 2025 on World Alzheimer's Day, Sunday 21st September, at Wilton House, near Salisbury.
