Alzheimer's Support trustees have paid tribute to two support workers who have being making a difference for people living with dementia in Wiltshire for 20 years.
Phil Horton and Susan Dixon received long service awards and shared insights and memories from their decades supporting people in the Devizes and Melksham area.
Susan, whose children were at primary school when she started, is now a grandmother, and professionally she supports a lady who is the niece of an early client. She said: "I never forget that people have had a life before dementia, and I have learned so much over the years from the people I support."
Phil said it had been a privilege to be part of people's lives and to see the world through their perspectives. "I remember taking a man ten-pin bowling in a large hangar. He said that the last time he had been in the building it was housing a Lancaster bomber."
Chair of trustees Janet Dore said: "I know how important the job you do is as my mother had dementia and the support we received then made it possible for me to continue caring and to carry on working. It was a lifesaving service for me and has been for so many families that have depended on you throughout the years.
"Thank you both for your years of making life richer for people affected by dementia, for always seeing the person first and for continuing to be be such an important part of our team. And here's to many more!"
