A volunteer for Alzheimer's Support has embarked on the adventure of a lifetime to raise funds for Alzheimer's Support.

Kate McGrane, who volunteers at Ludgershall Music for the Mind, and her husband Nigel are trekking to Everest Base Camp in Nepal. They will hike for eight hours a day for ten days through the challenging terrain of Nepal’s Khumbu Valley, reaching altitudes of 17,598ft, and be rewarded with views of some of the world's highest peaks.

Kate said: “It’s a huge challenge and a lifelong dream to do this. Having spent many years in dementia care as a nurse, I understand the devastating impact it has on individuals and their families, including my own. As a volunteer for the charity I know their work is invaluable so we wanted to do this for them.”

Rachel Fear, community fundraising manager for Alzheimer’s Support, said: “We are blown away by Kate and Nigel’s challenge and so grateful to them for fundraising for people affected by dementia. It’s an epic journey and we hope they find inspiration from the breath-taking mountain views. We’ll be cheering them on every step of the way.”

They aim to reach Everest Base Camp by 11th November.
