More than 200 people are making a difference to the lives of people with dementia in Wiltshire as volunteers for Alzheimer's Support.

The charity reached the milestone last month with 201 dedicated volunteers now actively contributing to its work. They play a crucial role in the charity's day clubs and community groups, as well as helping out with fundraising and many other much-needed tasks.

Volunteer manager Annie Clayton said: "I’m thrilled that we have inspired so many people to give us time and space in their lives. It's incredibly rewarding to watch our wonderful team grow over the years and to see the friendships form between people who have been with us a long time, and how they welcome new faces to their teams. Every volunteer, no matter how many hours they contribute, makes their impact in a different way, and every volunteer has a role to play."

Annie said the time given by people varied hugely, with some donating a day each week to support the charity's day clubs, to others helping out for just a couple of hours at a monthly memory cafe, and added "You don't have to volunteer every week to make a difference."

Annie, who is also Alzheimer's Support's trainer, said the charity was still looking for more men and women to join the team.

"We’re always looking for compassionate individuals who can join us and we will support people to find the role that suits them best. We always offer introductory training and ongoing support to our volunteers so they feel confident and supported when they are with us. If anyone feels this is something they have time for I can personally provide training and support to help you find the perfect role that aligns with your skills and interests."

Sue Threlfall, who volunteers at Old Silk Works day club in Warminster, said: "What I love is getting to see the magic of human connection and how it enriches our member's lives.

"Whether through shared stories, laughter and fun, it's the simple act of connecting with one another that makes volunteering so special to me."
