A memory shed for Calne

Groups of mostly older men taking part in practical woodworking activities and using tools inside the memory shed building

People living with dementia in Calne are invited to come along to the town's first Memory Shed this month.

The Memory Shed will be held every Tuesday at the same venue as the town's Men's Shed - the Groundsman's Building at Calne Recreation Ground.

It's for men and women who have enjoyed practical tasks and working with tools and is a chance to keep up skills and create useful things while spending some social time together. Volunteers from Calne Men's Shed will be on hand to support the group as they build bird boxes, restore furniture and create children's toys and more.

It is the second Memory Shed run by Alzheimer's Support, and builds on the success of the well-established group in Corsham.

Head of community services Jonathan Aldridge-Mansfield said: “We are thrilled to bring the Memory Shed to Calne. We know how vital social engagement and purposeful activities are for those living with dementia, and this project aims to provide just that — a space where people can feel valued, supported, and connected.”

"We are very grateful to the organising committee of Calne Men's Shed - Polly Morrow, Gus Gooch, Jeff Rawlings, Diane Gooch and their members, who have supported this project from the start."

The first meeting of the new group is on Tuesday 22nd April, 11am - 1pm.
