Downton Downtime

Downton Downtime

Downton Downtime is a welcoming, weekly gathering in the heart of Downton for people living with dementia, their carers, older adults, and anyone who’d love a friendly morning of connection, creativity, and gentle activity.

We meet every Tuesday from 10.15am to 12pm at Downton Baptist Church, South Lane, Downton. We begin with a warm welcome — fresh tea, cake, and a chance to chat. Then our morning continues with a choice of activity sessions designed to be inclusive, stimulating, and fun. Our schedule alternates between:

  • Move & Make Music – led by Sounds Better CIC, with singing, rhythm and movement to music
  • Creative / Social Activities – led by volunteers, including arts & crafts, puzzles, seated movement or dancing, gentle games, and conversation

Everyone is welcome.

Why take part

Joining Downton Downtime isn’t just about passing a pleasant morning — it’s about connection, wellbeing and joy.

You’ll step into a relaxed, friendly atmosphere where everyone is valued, heard and included. It’s a place to meet new people, share stories, and build meaningful friendships. Through music, gentle movement or creative activities, the group aims to lift spirits, spark memories and support wellbeing in a gentle, natural way.

Carers are warmly welcomed too — to join in, take a breather, and connect with others who truly understand.

We’re proud to be part of a vibrant local network of volunteers, artists and musicians who care about making a difference. Whether you come for the cake, the company, the music, or simply a quiet moment of joy — there’s a place for you here.

What you can expect

Doors open at 10:15am, with a friendly welcome — and of course, tea, coffee and cake. We start with time to chat, reconnect and settle in before moving on to a mix of activities. Each week is a little different, from Move & Make Music with Sounds Better CIC to crafts, games, puzzles or gentle movement.

There’s no pressure to join in — listening, watching or simply enjoying the company is just as welcome. Our volunteers and facilitators are always nearby with a smile, support or a friendly chat.

We finish around 12:00 noon, leaving everyone feeling a little lighter, brighter and more connected.
